Workshop with don Americo Yabar

Americo Yabar is a world-renowned paqo (shaman/mystic) from the Andes of Peru. Don Americo is a chakaruna a Quechua term for a human bridge connecting the energy of the Andes with that of the west. In addition to traveling the world to teach workshops and nourish salka (undomesticated energy) he has served as the representative of the indigenous people of the Andes in numerous international conferences. He is a powerful paqo with a huge heart. He walks his talk, and as a mystic who is also a poet, his talk is very beautiful indeed.

Don Americo will guide us through processes that provide an experiential exploration of the Andean Cosmovision. The Andean Cosmovision is the way of experiencing and interacting with reality found among the indigenous people of the high Andes of Peru. It is a path that opens us up to profound aspects of our own being and that puts us in a loving and mutually supportive relationship with nature and the Cosmos. It has been 12 years since his last visit to the United States and we are delighted that he has agreed to come to Utah to work with us.

The Boulder Mountain Guest Ranch

Location: The workshop will be held at the Boulder Mountain Guest Ranch, located six miles from Boulder, Utah on the Hell's Backbone road. It is a wonderful and isolated place in the high desert wilderness of Utah. The ranch has a large expanse of grass, several fire pits, an underground room where we can meet if the weather is particularly hot or if it is raining, and a waterfall a few minutes hike from the rooms. Some of the food we will be served will come from the organic gardens at the ranch.

We will be within easy driving distance of the Escalante region and the high elevations of Boulder mountain for possible day excursions for our work with Americo (this will involve car-pooling in private cars).

Weather: the Boulder Mountain Guest Ranch is located at about 6,700 feet elevation. The average high temperature in July is 85 degrees and the average low is 58 degrees.

Directions from Salt Lake City: take I-15 South to US-50 East, to Ut-24 East, to Ut-12 West. Google maps says the drive will take 4 hours and 8 minutes. That seems optimistic, you might want to plan on it taking five hours.

The Workshop

This is our chance to share the opportunity of working with don Americo with as many people as possible. Americo has requested that the size of the workshop be held to 30 participants.

We will begin at 3:00 in the afternoon of July 10th. The workshop will end at noon on July 13th. The cost depends upon the type of lodging you select. We have reserved the whole lodge for this workshop, which should be a heck of a lot of fun. Lodging is for the evenings of the 10th, 11th, and 12th. Food covers dinner on the 10th; breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the 11th and 12th; and breakfast and lunch on the 13th. We are still working on the menu, but we expect the breakfasts to be a somewhat expanded continental breakfast. We will be asking for your dietary restrictions on the registration form.

Cost: The costs listed below are the total costs for attending the workshop (food, lodging, and registration fee). Please use the letters below to indicate your preferences for accommodations on the registration form. We will accommodate preferences on a first come first served basis (upon receipt of the deposit as described in the registration page).
